Top 5 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Wedding Flowers

As a florist, I am asked many of the same questions by couples who are planning their wedding flowers, so I’ve compiled a list of 5 frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answered them! Hopefully, these questions and answers will help anyone in the wedding planning process.

#1: How much are my wedding flowers going to cost?

Howie + Michelle | Narrowleaf Photography

This is probably the most frequently asked question that I get from couples…and rightfully so! Weddings can become quite costly and knowing how much something is going to cost before making an investment is generally wise, especially when monitoring a budget. Unfortunately, I don’t have a perfect answer to this question; there are so many floral elements that can be part of a big day. A wedding can be simply a bouquet and a few small floral pieces (less than $500) OR extravagant with multiple bouquets, a plethora of boutonnieres and corsages, ceremony arch pieces, aisle décor, table centerpiece arrangements, and much more ($7,500+)! My advice would be to:

  • Clearly define your “must haves” vs. “nice to haves”

  • Figure a floral budget and decide if it’s rigid or fluid

  • Trust your florist (to help determine the flowers in season and the most cost-effective choices)

#2: Can you give me a quote for [insert specific wedding flowers]?

Adam + Ari | Brookklyn Photo

Yes, I can give you a quote for specific wedding flowers; however, I need more information. Similarly, if you go to a coffee shop and order a coffee. There will likely be follow-up questions to ensure that you are getting what you want (i.e. For here or to go? Just black? Hot or cold? Creamer? Sugar? etc.). Let’s take a bridal bouquet as an example. I can give you a quote for a bridal bouquet, but without any other information…I can only tell you that bridal bouquet prices range from $85 - $400. In the floral world, we have access to so many beautiful flowers and greenery, so we need to narrow it down to ensure that we are quoting appropriately. I LOVE it when couples share photos, but I want more than just photos. I want to know if they like the color scheme, the size, the shape/style of the bouquet, the greenery, a specific flower, etc. Simply put…in order to create an accurate quote, I need a little more information.

#3: When should I meet or chat with you (florist) about my wedding flowers?

Matthew + Cherese | Chelsea Dobs Photography

We can meet or chat about your wedding flowers anytime before your big day; a minimum of one month prior allows for time to pre-order specific flowers/greenery. Have I put together wedding flowers the week of a wedding or for an elopement? Absolutely, but the couple understands that we are only able to utilize what is available to us and do not have time to pre-order anything. For couples who have some time before their big day, I encourage them to have a color palette (outfits & attire) situated before we meet, as sometimes the floral look changes with the color scheme. Most couples meet/chat with me three months to one year before their big day.

#4: How do I know if I am missing any important floral pieces? What if I don’t want traditional wedding flowers?

Remember you are planning YOUR big day. Sometimes you can get lost in all the details and decisions of a wedding and you end up settling for your mom’s sister’s cousin’s highly opinionated suggestion; rather than focusing on what you (as a couple) want your big day to entail. There are so many floral elements that can be incorporated that it can leave you feeling overwhelmed and unsure if you have remembered everything. I have a floral checklist that I step couples through to ensure they are provided with lots of floral options, so they don’t feel that anything is left out or missing. I find that having all the available options in front of them allows them to eliminate some floral pieces and add pieces that they did not realize they wanted. As for non-traditional weddings, well…I am all for them! While there is much beauty in upholding traditions, sometimes it just doesn’t fit the couple’s style, theme, or vision. I LOVE to get to know a couple and when I am asked to create something unique and special for them it makes my job even more fulfilling!

#5: Do you offer specific packages or is everything customized?

For Floral Sake offers two types of wedding services: Color Palette Weddings and Full-Service Weddings. A color palette wedding allows you to choose a color scheme and basically shop online for your wedding flowers. This option is perfect for couples looking for a quick and simple ordering process. It maximizes budget management, as the couple is able to select floral items within a color palette for their big day. Full-service weddings are much more customizable. These weddings require a consultation, email communication(s), deposit & signed contract, and often utilize delivery AND set up for their big day. If you are still unsure about which wedding service is best suited for you, just ask - I enjoy connecting with couples to plan their wedding flowers!
